statement ring review American Innovative Teach Talking Nightlight
Our 2 1/2 year old kept getting up at night and was trending earlier every week on wake-up times. 5:30 am is just too early! We asked for advice and a friend recommended this clock. From the very first day we used it, it was a lifesaver! We told him he couldn't get up until it was green, and if he'd awaken before then (we set it for 6:30 am), he'd stay laying down talking quietly to himself. It allowed us to get back to sleep. Then, when the light turned green, we'd hear excited squeals: "Green! It's GREEN!"
He absolutely loves his clock and presses the button to hear the spoken time each morning when he wakes up. I know that this clock was designed to remain useful for many years, including through learning to tell time, so we feel like it is well worth the purchase price.
As a side note, we bought this months ago and every morning we still hear excited "it's green!!" exclamations from his room. Only now, he tends to wake up between 6:30 am and 7:10 am. =)
UPDATE: it's now September 2011, a year later, and this still works for us. Our 3 1/2 year old stays in bed until the light turns green.
We bought this because we have a 3 year old who is a VERY early riser. It took a few days for him to get the hang of it, but now he stays in bed until the clock turns green. So now instead of getting up with him at 5:30 am, he waits until 6:30 am. He doesn't necessarily sleep until 6:30, but he does stay in bed. Thank you clock!!!
BalasHapusI've had this clock for a couple weeks now, and I've been very pleased with it. Some of the reviewers said that it's too bright or not bright enough or whatever. I disagree; it's just about perfect! I tweaked some of the default settings (doing so was very intuitive) so that the "feet" buttons don't do anything (so that my son, just over two years old, isn't tempted to get out of bed to play with them) but once he's older, they can work to control the actual alarm and also speak the time. It even has a time "game" to help him learn. Cool =)
BalasHapusWe have it set to stay "off" (dimly lit) until it's time to wake up, at which point it turns green. Using the buttons on the back you can show your kid the difference in colors; my son picked up on it really fast. We just told him that "yellow means stay in bed; green means all done!" Now he happily starts singing "Deen! Deen!" in his room once it changes in the mornings =) You can also have it be brighter during the night if you prefer a brighter nightlight than its default. The instructions tell you exactly how to set the color changes, but you need to read them carefully (the first night I set it incorrectly and my son was a bit confused as he waited for it to turn green, which it never did...)
It can take batteries too, which is great, because my son loves to unplug it after we get him up and take it with him to the bathroom (along with various other toys, of course) for his morning routine. (Note that it doesn't change colors when on batteries; my son just calls it "white" at that point.) This clock is among his favorite things and he talks about it all the time.
The only downside is that I wish it could have two alarms - one for the morning and one for naps. my son still seems confused about how he's to interpret the clock when he gets up from a nap; we tell him it's okay but he still seems concerned that it's not green yet. I know some other similar products do have two alarms, but I still think this one has the overall best feature set.
$40 seemed a little high in my opinion, but I got it from a 3rd party for $25 including shipping, and that was a deal.
My husband and I were troubling over how to get our three-year old daughter to learn when she could "get up" in the morning...we brainstormed and thought of the most desirable features of a toddler clock. Well, this one hit the mark on every one. It runs on an AC adapter, the clock can "talk", the voice is not obnoxious, parents can control the volume, the light changing feature at "wake up" time is perfect, the control panel is only accessible by parents, the games seem appropriate and clever, and I think the product will be adaptable for years to come...can't say enough good things. At first I thought the price was a little high but now that we've received it and used it, no complaints! A must-buy for any parent, especially of a toddler.
BalasHapusI was skeptical as to how our 3 and 6 year old sons would respond to the clock. From the first night we told them to not leave their bedroom until the clock glowed green. Green means go! We've had it for about a month now and they have waited for it to turn green every morning. Our 3 year old was getting up as early as 5:30 am and now he seems to be falling back asleep waiting for the light and then getting up around 7 am, a much better rested and happy child.

BalasHapusI got each of kids one of these clocks and purposely put an alarm on the older child (4) and DID not put one on the younger child (almost 3). For my oldest the alarm is working beautifully! He looks forward to getting up, comes in our room and says the clock is green, it's wake up time. And he love touching the feet to hear what time it is and matching it up with the way the minute hand moves around and around. I think he figured out how to turn off the alarm but thankfully he isn't jumping back in bed. The only problem is that his next move is to wake up his sister (who we don't want to wake up that early) and then come jump in our bed instead of starting with his routine. I rated this product a 5 star because it accomplishes exactly what it told you it would. If they could figure out a way to allow you to record a personal message like "Good Morning, Don't wake your sister up and got immediately to the potty" this would be the best clock ever made. But I guess those last two requests are just my issues...(smile) Definitely get this clock, you'll love it.
BalasHapusThis clock is wonderful. We got it for my 2nd grader because she wanted her own alarm clock. This one was perfect. We can practice telling time with the game feature. Which we've actually used (wasn't sure if we'd actually use it since sometimes extra features don't get used). Wonderful to be able to set it in analog mode, digital mode or both. We love the "talking" feature. When her alarm is set and turned on, it "talks" to her and says "you're getting up at 6:40am". Love it. And the alarm when it goes off is not annoying like the buzzing/beeping on your basic digital alarm clock. You have 3 color features (blue, pink, yellow) for the face which is awesome. She picked pink. It's small enough that it doesn't take up a ton of space. I just can't say enough good things about it. Wish I would have bought it a long time ago. Love the night light feature. And are not bothered at all by the constant back light. She has always used a night so this is a nice way of getting the best of both worlds. Oh and it sure has made getting up in the morning a little easier since she gets excited about using her own alarm clock. I used to have to practically drag her out of bed (which still happens here and there but not as much) but with her using her own alarm clock she gets up most of the time on her own and starts getting ready without me having to say a word. Absolutely recommend this clock to every parent.
